The diver who found the key

The key belongs to the New York Café, just around the corner.

Why here.

The key belongs to the New York Café round the corner. Legend says the writer Ferenc Molnár threw the café’s key into the Danube on opening night in 1894 so that it could never close; versions disagree on the year, and it is a legend. The café’s management did throw a key into the river for its 120th anniversary in 2014. The diver has brought it back.

The statue’s own story.

Erzsébetváros commissioned it, one of three miniatures unveiled in the district on 28 August 2019.
